KVGS Vertical Files at WMU Archives
KVGS has accumulated material in vertical files during the last
forty year and many members are unaware of this resource. The
contents have come from numerous sources including copies of
members' records, previous research done for others, small
groupings of family history materials that can fit in a file
folder. A master finding aid (notebook) of the surnames does
exist at the Regional Archives at WMU and soon we will have a CD
index. The project was started in 1995 and is regularly updated
as materials are added. The KVGS vertical file is maintained by
Ardis J. Pierce. May 2009
Kalamazoo County Probate Court Indexes
The four-volume index has been scanned on the county clerk's
equipment and turned over to Probate Court. Ultimately the
deteriorating index books can be moved to permanent storage.
Wayne Loney scanned the documents and we are awaiting a decision
from the Kalamazoo County Probate Court regarding the use of
these indexes. May 2009

Kalamazoo County Clerk Vital Records Indexes
County Clerk Tim Snow allowed us to us a large scanner in his
Register of Deeds office. The scanning of the vital records for
Kalamazoo County was completed in 2008. The indexes will
eventually be posted on the
Kalamazoo County Clerk website. This project is
complete. The volunteers were: William Miller,
Ardis Pierce, Howard
Potrude, and Wayne
Loney. May 2009
Births and Deaths in Township Records
Ledgers which were retained by the smaller cities or townships,
were recalled by Mr. Snow to his office. Volunteers compared
the ledger information with the county's records to determine if
the information has been previously recorded at the county
level. The project is now
close to finish with verifications which need to be completed.
KVGS members who volunteered numerous hours on this project
area:
Mary Hodges,
Suzanne Norton,
Ardis Pierce,
Sue Sanders,
Mary Skinner, and
Jan Smith.
