Immediately following the business meeting, KVGS Member and Genealogist Janine Guimont Cotugno will present "To Be or Not to Be Canadian…Eh! Tips on Canadian Genealogy."
Do you know that you might be eligible for Canadian Citizenship if you have an ancestor born in Canada? If you can provide vital statistics and other proof documents to show a direct line between that ancestor and yourself, you can apply for a Canadian Citizenship by Descent Certificate. Learn from Janine what genealogy sources can help you find the needed Canadian documents.

The Kalamazoo Valley Genealogical Society is a member of the Michigan Genealogical Council and is pleased to share information about the 2026 MGC Fall Family History event.
The Michigan Genealogical Council is proud to announce the 2026 Fall Family History event, featuring Kelli Jo Bergheimer, in collaboration with its partners, The Archives of Michigan and the Library of Michigan, on Saturday, November 14, 2026, in Lansing or virtually! Kelli will join the event live in Lansing!

Immediately following the business meeting, Genealogist Jeff Mason will present “Breaking Down Brick Walls & Reawakening Dead Ends.”
Have you ever put aside a genealogical search for an ancestor after a valiant search effort? Anyone who has performed serious genealogical research has at least one "dead end" - a point at which information for the person you are searching for has seemingly been teleported into outer space.
Join us for a review of tips and tricks that can help you bulldoze your brick walls and bring your dead ends to life! A comprehensive example of a previous dead-end search will bring us to a conclusion made plain, followed by a question-and-answer session.
